The Convention of 1836 was a big gathering of chosen commissioners

held in Washington-on-the-Brazos,Texas on March 1, 1836. Then, the Texas Revolution had started five months before. On October 1, 1835.The Consultation ,or provisional rulers, was thinking if they were going to say,

“Hey, we don’t want you ruling us, so kind of GET OFF OUR BACKS!” This newer council was different in different ways like delegates were younger, they were newcomers, and they were more focused on the thought of having independence or being free.

While the commissioners gathered, the Mexican Government and

President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna gathered and marched with a huge amount of Mexican troops came running right into the Texas borders. They came to stop the thirst for independence against him. The leaders of President Santa Anna’s army got to the Texas fort,San Antonio de Bexar, on February 23,1836.On March 2,1836, the Texian community took in the Texas Declaration of Independence that were made by George Childress.

The delegates chose a new interim government that was led by

President David G. Burnet. They also created a Texas Constitution that was essentially established off of the United States Constitution. On March 6, they got a letter from some Texian soldiers that said they were trapped at the Alamo. Commissioner and vice chief Sam Houston slightly got the men to not rush away to save the men and let Santa Anna’s army destroy the Alamo’s remaining men and charge over to Washington-on-the-Brazos carrying hopes to make the new government run away.
